Disintegration of tablets
Tablet must possess the necessary disintegration with sufficient mechanical strength. Too high tablet strength affects its disintegration and release of the drug substance - disintegration time increases, which adversely affects the quality of tablets.
Disintegration depends a number of reasons:
1) on the amount of binding agents: tablets should contain an amount of binding agents which is necessary to achieve the required strength;
2) on the pressing pressure: excessive pressure worsens tablet disintegration;
3) on the quality of disintegrating substances promoting tablet disintegration;
4) on the properties of substances included in tablet, on their ability to dissolve in water, become moist, swell; tablets with readily soluble substances will decay faster and require fewer disintegrating agents.
The mass subjected to pressing, must have a set of properties, providing performance above requirements: dose accuracy, mechanical strength and disintegration.
